Day By Day Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kenya – Journey to Masai Mara & First Wildlife Encounters

You will be met by your professional safari guide on arrival and begin your journey to the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve. The drive takes you through the dramatic Gong Hills before descending into the floor of the Great Rift Valley, one of Africa’s most significant geological features. Along the way, the landscape opens into vast Maasai rangelands dotted with acacia trees.

You will arrive in the Masai Mara around midday, check in at your accommodation, and enjoy lunch before heading out for your first afternoon game drive. The drive focuses on the wildlife populations and varied habitats. This sector supports large herbivore herds, which in turn attract predators such as lions and cheetahs. Your game drive continues into the evening, allowing you to witness wildlife activity as temperatures cool, before returning to accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2Full-Day Masai Mara – Big Five Exploration

Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the Masai Mara’s wildlife richness. After an early breakfast, you depart with a packed lunch for a full-day game drive in focused search of the Big Five. You begin in the Sekenani area and gradually make your way toward the Musiara sector, an ecologically important region characterized by permanent marshlands and riverine vegetation.

The Masai Mara holds the highest wildlife density in Kenya and is the only national reserve where four of the Big Five — lion, elephant, buffalo, and leopard — are found in consistently high numbers.

Throughout the day, you will observe complex predator-prey interactions. By day’s end, most of you will have encountered at least three of the Big Five, with the elusive leopard remaining a special highlight when spotted.

Day 3Transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park -Maasai Village Visit (Optional)

After breakfast, you have the option to visit a local Maasai village for a cultural interaction that offers insight into traditional pastoral life, social structures, and customs. Thereafter, you depart for Lake Nakuru National Park, located in Kenya’s Central Rift Valley. You arrive around lunchtime, check in at your lodge, and later proceed for an afternoon game drive.

Lake Nakuru is internationally famous for its flamingos, which often line the shallow alkaline lake, creating exceptional photographic opportunities with the birds set against the scenic escarpment backdrop. Beyond flamingos, the park is one of the best places in Kenya to see both black and white rhinos, making it especially important for completing the Big Five experience. The park also supports lions, buffaloes, Rothschild’s giraffes, and numerous bird species, making it a vital conservation stronghold.

Day 4Lake Nakuru Highlights – Transfer to Ol Pejeta Conservancy

You begin the day with a morning game drive in Lake Nakuru, when wildlife is most active, before checking out and driving north toward Ol Pejeta Conservancy in the Laikipia Plateau. Upon arrival, you check in at your accommodation located just outside the conservancy and take lunch then proceed to afternoon game drive.

Ol Pejeta holds Kenya’s second-highest wildlife density after the Masai Mara, the second-biggest big cat populations, and contains the largest rhino sanctuary in East Africa. The conservancy also has abundant elephants and buffaloes. It is also home to the last two remaining northern white rhinos on Earth. You may also visit the chimpanzee sanctuary, the only one of its kind in Kenya, which rescues and rehabilitates abused and orphaned chimps. Game drives continue until evening before returning to accommodation for Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5Transfer to Samburu – Cultural Experience

After breakfast, you depart for Samburu, driving through Kenya’s scenic Central highlands into the semi-arid north. Upon arrival, you check in at your camp and later visit a Samburu village, one of Kenya’s most authentic indigenous communities. The Samburu people are closely related to the Maasai, yet their culture, attire, traditions, and rituals differ in fascinating ways. This visit allows you to compare the two cultures while gaining a deeper understanding of life in northern Kenya.

Day 6Samburu National Reserve – Endangered & Rare Species

Today, you enter Samburu National Reserve with a packed lunch for a full-day game drive. The reserve is renowned for its elephant populations, often seen along the Ewaso Nyiro River, as well as buffaloes, lions, and leopards adapted to arid environments. Samburu is also famous for the Samburu Special Five, a group of rare and endangered dry-land species found only in northern Kenya: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk. Your guide will help you distinguish these species from their southern counterparts, such as Grevy’s zebras from plains zebras and reticulated giraffes from Maasai giraffes, offering educational insight into evolutionary adaptations to harsh environments.

Day 7Return to Nairobi

After breakfast, you depart Samburu for Nairobi on a scenic drive of approximately six hours through the lush Central highlands. Upon arrival in the city, you will be transferred directly to the airport for your onward flight, marking the end of a safari that combines Big Five encounters, endangered species, conservation education, and rich cultural experiences across Kenya’s most iconic landscapes.
